The iconic Pikachu Illustrator, one of the strangest and most limited cards in the official trading card game, beats a new record in a new auction.
Pikachu Pokemon Illustrator, one of the rarest and special cards in the history of the game, was launched in 1998 through a special contest organized by the Japanese magazine CoroCoro. It is entirely in Japanese, there is no version in English or in any other language, and its total number is estimated at about 39 copies sent to the winners and finalists of a drawing contest. It has never been put up for sale or has been able to be bought officially, so its value is, as you can imagine, incalculable. Before the auction, the letter has been certified and analyzed by notaries and specialists as authentic because there are several very realistic fakes.
The last auctioned auction, dating from 2016, sold for $ 54,000. In just a few years, the letter has been increasing its value in the market, until reaching the exorbitant prices that we are seeing today. You also have to assess the status of this new card, near mint -that is, it has not been played and is perfect-, much better than the one that was auctioned years ago. The fever for Pokémon cards is on the rise, both because of the revitalized strength of the saga and the successive expansions that pull nostalgia and classic videogame editions, such as Red and Blue, Silver and Gold or the like.
A few months ago, a sealed Pokémon box of the first edition exceeded $ 70,000
